Remarkable results.

“I am writing to thank you for the excellent structural work that you did with my husband Robert. Medical professionals are not always very good patients, and I was worried that he might not enjoy the process or take it to heart. I was very wrong. From the outset he was greatly impressed with your manner and expertise.

The use of digital photographs was an amazing way to define alignment problems and to demonstrate how they can be corrected. Clearly you understood the human body and were able to immediately recognize his particular set of problems. Robert has seen remarkable results. He is now constantly posture aware and is able to play tennis once or twice a week, pain free. He has never had anyone help him so specifically, and so effectively.”

Hitting the ball much better.

“Thanks for your help last month. The stretches are great – especially the pelvis ‘stuff' and the flat back, bum out. I'm hitting the ball much better with a greater and ‘freer' turn, both on take-away and follow-through.”

Ward A. McMahon

Strength, posture and well-being greatly improved.

It has now been six weeks since I started and I am amazed at the results I have already achieved. My strength, posture and feeling of well-being have improved greatly…my greatest surprise and delight has been to discover how much I enjoy and look forward to the workout sessions. I can honestly say I can't imagine not making a regular weight training program a part of my life.”

Ross Stringer

Getting rid of the pain.

“Getting rid of the pain was important but over and above that you showed me that I had a number of imbalances in my muscular structure (left side, right side, etc.) that needed attention."

WORKSTATION ERGONOMICS AND SITTING POSTURE

Repetitive strain injuries suffered by workers subject to poor workstation ergonomics contributes to millions of dollars in compensation claims annually. This is not just confined to large organizations. Small-business owners sometimes do not have the option of taking time off and must suffer through the discomfort of chronic postural pain syndromes. Often a thorough ergonomic assessment and a few modifications to the workstation environment could save them significant discomfort and financial strain. The following points should help anyone.

• Adjust your workstation to fit your body instead of the other way around.

• Unless you have a desktop or keyboard tray which has adjustable height, you need to raise or lower your chair so that your arms are bent at a 90 degree angle (thus allowing your shoulders to remain relaxed) when using your keyboard or mouse.

• If your desktop or keyboard tray height is adjustable, adjust height as shown in the image below.

• If your keyboard tray has a tilt adjustment you should tilt it away from you until your wrists are in a straight line from your body, rather than in extension.

• Adjust the height of your monitor if necessary so that your eye level (when head is in an upright posture) is approximately 1.5 inches below the top of your monitor's screen. There are adjustable monitor stands available or even a phone book can be used to adjust monitor height.

Correct workstation ergonomics and sitting posture can prevent many painful posture-related conditions. A well-designed ergonomic task chair can be one of your most valuable investments, both physically and financially.

• When reaching out with straight arms, your fingertips should touch the monitor screen.

• Ideally you should be able to place your mouse beside your keyboard so you don't have to reach across your desk for it. There are keyboard trays constructed wide enough to accommodate a mouse.

• If possible have your arm supported on your desk while mousing, or as an alternative if you have a chair with adjustable arm rests, set the height so that your elbow gently supports your mouse arm.

• All items that you frequently reach for (for example telephone, appointment book or calculator) should be within a 10 inch reach radius.

• Learn how to adjust the chair. Your seat pan should be tilted forward at a slight angle.

• Your seat height should allow you to maintain a thigh angle of more than 90 degrees to your body.

• You should be able to sit tall in your chair with your feet flat on the floor and your lower back supported. If this is not the case you may want to consider adding a lumbar support to your chair. If you find that your working surface is too high to allow you to place feet flat on floor and the working surface is not adjustable, you may want to consider using a footrest.

• Ask yourself if your eyes are experiencing any strain. You may realize that light reflecting off your screen is making you squint or you may be using font that is too small.

The most important point to remember is to continually change between a variety of healthy postures. Maintaining any position for too long can be detrimental.

ANTERIOR HEAD CARRIAGE

As one of the most prevalent postural deviations, anterior head carriage is as simple as it sounds. It's the treatment that is a little more sophisticated. Most people spend too much time at their computers, in their cars, and walking around with their head forward of where it should be.
