Mixx Success Stories

Josh Binstock

“Thanks for another great session Rob. The Sport Posture approach is like no workout I've ever done. Coming from a kinesiology and chiropractic background myself, it all makes sense and I'm learning more and more about the true function of my body's core system with each session. This is a unique facet of performance development that is relevant to any athlete in any sport.”

“I've been around athletics all of my life, and count on my body to perform when I need it. I love how intuitive and specific the Sport Posture approach is. Not only does it strengthen and teach my body to perform as a single stable unit, I know it'll make me a significantly better athlete and help me avoid injuries in the future. I recommend the Sport Posture program to both amateur and professional athletes that want to be one step ahead of the curve! I've really enjoyed working with Rob Williams and Scotty Marchant. Their cutting edge techniques are second to none!”

“Rob’s focus on posture and realignment has been tremendously helpful for me, not only in a greater awareness of how I carry myself, but also in an increased understanding of body mechanics. I love Rob’s specificity, his attention to detail, and the results we’ve achieved together.” ~ Chris Pine, Actor (Star Trek, Unstoppable),

How long have you trained at Mixx and who do you train with?

I have trained since March 2010 with Jarryd Bates.

What goal did you set for yourself when you began training? Have you accomplished the goal you set or are you still working towards it?

When I began training, I had two objectives. The fist was to lose weight and the second was to improve my physical health and change my lifestyle. So far, I have lost about 30 pounds and I have significantly improved my physical capabilities. With Jarryd’s help I have been able to achieve most of my goals in a very short period of time: I am already half-way to my weight-loss goal and I have incorporated exercise into my daily routine.

Describe your activity in a typical week:

Monday: 1 hour workout at Mixx with Jarryd
Tuesday: Stair climbing: 30-50 minutes
Wednesday: 1 hour workout at Mixx with Jarryd
Thursday: 1 hour workout at Mixx with Jarryd
Friday: Cardio session
Saturday: Rest
Sunday: 1 hour tennis

Describe any obstacles you encountered and how you overcame them:

The greatest obstacle I faced was my own skepticism and doubt. When I started with Jarryd, I had many goals in mind but no hope or confidence of my ability to achieve them. Jarryd gave me the confidence, the motivation and the push I needed to get over the obstacles that I had created for myself.

What do you attribute your success to?

I am very thankful for having a great trainer like Jarryd. He is very knowledgeable, friendly and knows how to push me beyond my comfort zone, while still keeping me motivated. When I started working out with Jarryd I could hardly run for 20 seconds. Now, I can run for 5 minutes, climb 105 flights of stairs, and do so much more. I have recently completed the grouse grind –a challenge I never thought I was capable of overcoming. I now believe that I CAN and I know that I will be able to reach my goals and live my life to its fullest: my physical and mental transformation has been beyond belief. Thanks Jarryd! After 10 years of yoyo dieting, I am finally on my way to where I had dreamed of being!

“After attending three months of Bootcamp, I could not have imagined that I would achieve my personal best in a recent marathon qualifying me for Boston. Our instructor’s enthusiasm, expertise in speed and agility training and ability to push me outside my comfort zone, is helping me become stronger, healthier and moving me closer to reaching my potential as an athlete. Trusting the team at Better Bootcamp with my well-being was the best health decision I have made in a long time.”

“Enrolling my staff and myself in Better Bootcamp was a great business decision. As a long-time private client of Rob’s training team, I was confident in the level of expertise and professionalism so I jumped ant the chance to get my people involved. From the thorough intake assessments to structured, progressive workouts, Rob and Andrew definitely took good care of us. After only one week there was newfound enthusiasm around the office. My staff and I appreciated the cheerful synergy of the group which contained a variety of fitness levels. We particularly liked the gentle correction provided by the instructors, which leads to quick improvement in technique in a safe and supportive environment.”

Fitness Success - Terry EdwardsYou may recall, before Christmas I was in for a posture evaluation and an hour of your time.  I have been negligent in getting back to you with a heartfelt “thank you” for the session.

I was at a particularly low point physically when I was in and was actually quite shocked at the photos taken against the grid. My wife had long lovingly berated me for my poor posture, but with all the other medical issues I have had since my cancer surgery it was never a priority.  I sort of stood and walked like an extension of how I felt—hunched over and somewhat beaten.

After seeing the photos you took, and going over a simple set of exercises to help correct the issue, I have to tell you I have had fantastic results! I feel strong enough to join my fellow homo sapiens and walk erect like I should.  With the improved muscle tone from the focused exercises I no longer have the shoulder and back pain at day’s end.

People are remarking on my improved “healthy” look and vigor. My neighbors have asked if I have been feeling better as I “look” stronger and fit. Good posture helps present a healthier package both outwardly and from the inside. You provide the tools to help turn it around and that is great.

Fitness Success - Ja Pace

I was diagnosed with a life threatening blood disorder called Thalassemia Major at age four—I am now twenty-two—requiring monthly blood transfusions and nightly subcutaneous injections. I have managed to live a fairly normal life including vigorous physical activity as I used to be a dancer. However my life span is shortened and the blood transfusions lead to iron overload and many other side effects which take their toll on the body. The only present day cure is a bone marrow transplant. I went for it in 2007, but it did not go exactly as planned, as the graft failed and the extensive chemotherapy I received wiped out my immune system causing many serious infections and complications. As a result, I spent seven months in bed in an isolation room in the hospital. Along with other things, I lost all of my body fat and muscle mass.  My bones have become extremely weak.

In November, 2007, with a low immune system, a long list of infections and a pile of antibiotics, I was sent home. It was like being a baby all over again and I had to re learn everything including how to walk again.  With dancing being my main passion, this was both physically and emotionally devastating for me. With my amazing and supportive family and friends, I began my journey up the steep hill to recovery. Having low energy and little money, this was by far one of the hardest things I have ever had to do. It was a very slow process and I had to learn to have patience.

One day, I bumped into Bob Ross, the father of my good friends and the co-owner of Mixx studio, who offered me the facilities at the gym including a trainer and anything else I would need to help with my rehabilitation. There I met all of the warm and welcoming staff, including Shari, who showed me around and helped me get started and Thea who became my personal trainer. With osteopenia and vascular necrosis in my hips, I needed very special training.

Thea, with her vast knowledge of the body, was perfect. I really enjoy our sessions, because not only do we work out, but we laugh and talk too. When we started training at the end of April, I weighed 90lbs at 5'7 and I could barely do 1 squat, lift a 2 lb weight or even climb the stairs. Now, five months later I train with Thea for a full hour two times a week on top of working out at home. and I can walk without limping, I can go up and down the stairs without using the rail and I have gained 20 lbs (in muscle! he-he). My improvement hasn't only been physical though, it has especially, and more importantly, been emotional. Although I still live with thalassemia and am still receiving blood transfusions and treatment; I have been given new hope. I am inspired and determined and with all of this help and support I know that I will not only live for quite a few more years, but that I WILL dance again :) I cannot express how grateful I am for this opportunity.

Thank you to everyone at MIXX, with all of my heart.
Sincerely,
JA
